How Lunar Cycles, Sigils, and Energy Work Can Transform Your Gym Experience
It’s 2025 and a wave of newly motivated people have signed up for a gym membership. Have you ever wondered why commercial gyms are so cheap (sometimes as low as $10/mo)? It’s because so many people sign up and never go. It’s a $10 monthly payment on a possibility instead of a real product or service. I don’t want that for you.
I want you to milk your local commercial gym for all they’re worth.
First, my credentials:
Am I a personal trainer?: No
Am I a nutritionist?: No
Am I a medical professional?: No
I am someone who made a commitment to myself to go to the gym 4–6x a week and I’ve kept that goal for a couple of years now.
Motivation is a limiting factor. Sometimes only a miracle and the pope’s disappointed look can get you to put on a sports bra. The first time I signed up for a gym membership, I paid a monthly fee for a year and a half before I went. I had an athletic past, but I was so committed to my professional routine, that it was hard to introduce a change.
But then I did. And I’ve stuck to it for a couple of years. I want to say that it’s because of my “commitment to the grind” or whatever cringy quote productivity-obsessed gym bros are overlaying on a still from the Wolf of Wall Street these days. But it’s not. It’s because of witchcraft.
When your spirituality is as embedded into your everyday life the way it is in mine, it’s difficult to separate it from your new hobbies — like working out. Infusing my workouts with intention and occult principles has kept me motivated and consistent. Here are some ideas that might work for you, even if you’re not deep into the occult.
1. Energy Manipulation: Power Through Workouts
Some people use pre-workout supplements to feel energized before a workout. I avoid those because I’m concerned about their side effects on the heart. Instead, I raise energy the same way I would for a spell or a ritual.
There are many ways to raise energy, but my favorite way is through movement. I put on a playlist of my favorite Miami Booty Rap and transform my living room into a Miami nightclub, circa 1996.
I understand if you don’t want to re-traumatize your knees by dropping it low just to raise energy. You can also stomp your feet, clap your hands, wave your arms, or chant motivating phrases.
If you’re still feeling low, visualize a glowing source of energy centimeters outside of your body, near your solar plexus. Imagine it as an electrifying orb and watch it slam into your body, waking you up instantly.
2. Grounding and Centering: Stay Present in Fast-Paced Classes
Workout classes can sometimes feel overwhelming, especially if the instructor moves quickly. Use grounding and centering techniques to stabilize yourself. Imagine roots growing from your feet into the earth, anchoring you to the present moment. Sync your breath with the rhythm of the class, allowing your body to move fluidly rather than resisting the pace.
This also works when the gym is busy and there’s a lot of chatter going on around you. Earbuds can only do so much.
3. Set Intentions and Sigil Work for Goals
A sigil is a symbol that you design and infuse with a specific intention. The idea is that instead of having to recall a specific phrase every time, your brain will recognize the symbol and understand its meaning. Sigils function similarly to logos for companies — when you see the golden arches, you immediately associate them with McDonald’s. The word “McDonald’s” doesn’t need to be written out for you to know what the symbol represents. The same principle applies here.
You can create a sigil that represents your gym goal, whatever that may be. Perhaps you want to improve your mobility or lose 100 pounds. Design a symbol that embodies this goal, draw it on a piece of paper, and burn the paper to activate it (there are other ways to activate it, but they’re too X-rated for this article). Then, place the symbol where it will serve as a reminder — draw it on your water bottle, inside your gym clothes, or anywhere you find helpful.
4. Enchant Your Water and Water Bottle
Hydration is essential, so why not make it magical? Charge your water with intention before drinking. Hold your water bottle in both hands, close your eyes, and whisper an affirmation or goal into it: “May this water fuel my strength and endurance.” Draw sigils on your bottle representing your fitness goals. If you work with crystals, place a safe water-compatible stone, like clear quartz, near your bottle to amplify energy.
5. Workout Journal as a Book of Shadows
Keep a fitness grimoire just as you would a Book of Shadows. Document your workouts, track your progress, and reflect on how each session felt. Include affirmations, energy work notes, and any insights gained from moving your body.
This doesn’t mean you’re carrying a big notebook everywhere. A pocket-size composition book works fine.
6. Lunar and Planetary Influence on Training
Sync your workouts with celestial energies. Train for endurance and expansion during the waxing moon, and for release and detoxification during the waning moon. Use Mars-ruled Tuesdays for strength training and Saturn-ruled Saturdays for disciplined, structured routines. If you’re into astrology, align workouts with transits that favor motivation and physical strength.
7. A Ritual
Approach your workout as a sacred ritual. Begin with an opening invocation — light stretching while breathing deeply and setting your intention. Let your movements be an offering to your well-being, a spell cast through motion. Close with a cooldown and gratitude practice, sealing the energy raised.
8. A Witchy Workout Routine Aligned with Planetary Energies
Incorporate daily correspondences into your training schedule to align with planetary influences:
Monday (Moon — Abs): Focus on core exercises and stabilization, connecting to the moon’s maternal side. Just how moms stabilize the home, your abs should stabilize your body…and be as solid as your dining room table.
Tuesday (Mars — Chest/Arms — Push Day): Train for power and aggression with bench presses, push-ups, and triceps dips.
Wednesday (Mercury — Back/Arms — Pull Day): Mercury represents the back, which represents consciousness and life’s burdens. working out your arms and backs with pull-ups, rows, and bicep curls will align with this energy and help you work through any frustrations in the forefront of your mind.
Thursday (Jupiter — Legs — No Machines): Work on functional strength and expansion with squats, lunges, and deadlifts. Remember, thick thighs save lives.
Friday (Venus — Rest): Prioritize self-care, stretching, or a gentle yoga flow to honor Venusian balance and harmony.
Saturday (Saturn — Legs — Machine Focus): Build discipline and endurance through structured leg press, hamstring curls, leg and extensions. Use the weights on the machine to push yourself to failure…the way Saturn pushes us to our limits.
Sunday (Sun — Cardio): Channel vitality and willpower with jogging, cycling, or dance workouts.
9. Nutrition: Infusing Magic into Your Diet
Just as you fuel your workouts with movement and intention, you can fuel your body with nutrition and witchcraft. By eating foods that align with magical correspondences, you create an intentional approach to nourishment. I also found that it’s easier to eat healthy if my brain believes I will see a result in my finances, vitality, or sex life.
Here are a few examples:
Beans: Rich in fiber and great for digestive health, but in witchcraft, beans are powerful for money spells. Before consuming, infuse them with prosperity intentions.
Blueberries: Known for supporting brain health, fiber intake, and blood sugar regulation, but in magic, they enhance passion and sexual energy. Eat them while setting an intention for vitality and confidence.
Broccoli: A potent antioxidant that aids digestion and provides folate, but magically, it symbolizes protection, vitality, and prosperity. Bless your broccoli with protective energy before eating.
Oats: A staple for heart health and long-lasting energy, but also tied to abundance and stability spells. Stir your intention into your oatmeal for endurance and strength.
Almonds: Great for brain function and healthy fats, but in witchcraft, almonds are associated with wisdom and prosperity. Eat them before studying or setting financial goals.
Ginger: Aids digestion and circulation while also being a fiery ingredient for energy, courage, and power. Add it to your meals or tea to spark motivation
This way every meal or snack is a spell.
By integrating these occult principles into your fitness routine, you can transform working out from a mundane chore into an empowering, witchy practice. And remember, just as magic requires consistency, so does fitness.
Good luck with your fitness goals in 2025!
